An expression of honesty in materiality, and simplicity in form.
Fenn is a beauty & skin wellness space situated in Paddington's leafy Glenmore Road neighbourhood.
Our design intent for Fenn expresses honesty in materiality & simplicity in form to reflect the Fenn values. The 120sqm site is divided over two levels; the ground floor palette is made up of natural Forbo marmoleum as the primary flooring finish in ‘terracotta’, with custom murowash + sand applied to the walls to shape a calming feel. Bespoke shelves in brushed stainless steel are lined in cork presenting product alongside ceramics & artefacts collected by Fenn.
The point of sale is composed of cork & stainless steel in an aluminium finish with a gentle curved edge, above which sits aLe Corbusier Lampe de Marseille. Beyond the point of sale is a lounge area for clients to relax prior to - or following - their Fenn treatment. The room is designed to translate as a relaxed lounge with a residential tone, and features a custom-designed banquette, Anton glass wall lights by Volker Haug, and art by Peter Summer.
Opposite the lounge is a nook for hand-treatments & tea-service with a freestanding concrete basin in a cylindrical form, finished in a matte apricot hue to seamlessly align with the overall tone of the room with Dolce Vita marble from Med Marble applied to the counter tops as a gentle contrast. Glass bricks softly diffuse afternoon sunlight into the space.
Downstairs, the lower level takes on an uplifting & pure mood against a desaturated palette composed of two treatment spaces, and back-of-house facilities.
The first treatment space is situated at the rear of the site and is exposed to afternoon light which filters through glass brick windows and draped sheers to create a play of light in the room. A merging of materials & finishes is amplified by styling elements including Mabeo galvanised floor lamp, Floris Wubben Ceramic stool and vase from Studio Alm, resulting in a unique material experience which changes with the light throughout the day.
The second treatment space is an antidote to the first, taking on a deep ochre tone for an instant sense of ease using Murowash + Sand in ‘coora’. The room is styled with Blanche Jelly Tallomet Hooks - a gift from a Fenn client – alongside a Baxter Nepal Armchair from Space, Henry Wilson Pilar Lamp in Onyx and Floris Wubben ceramic stool from Studio Alm. The artwork “In Memory of Everything” 2021 by Paige Northwood from Jerico Contemporary integrates seamlessly into this warm & nurturing space.
Akin Atelier has designed a space which aims to provide an unconditional environment for holistic & unique skin health, where traditional & modern techniques are brought together by Fenn.
