Rochester Street Office is a thoughtful and straightforward, respectful and confident workplace designed by Allied_Office, Akin Atelier, Second Edition, and Dangar Barin Smith.
Intertwined with the confident and utilitarian architecture by Allied_Office, Rochester Street Offices is an experiential landscape that communicates the values of collaboration, craftsmanship, sustainability, and innovation along with the core values and philosophy of the clients, Robert Plumb Collective.
Set over three levels, each volume is connected by a refined timber staircase that threads thorough a glass block seam, inviting the eye upwards into the building and connecting to flexible and open working spaces.
Conceived as a collection of moments within a rough shell, the interiors acted as a testing ground for experimental material interventions; recycled off-cut marble flooring from local suppliers placed through the lobby, immersive bathrooms lined in recycled terracotta tile render, and recycled Oregon joinery are all key touch points of the journey throughout the building that have embodied stories about the process of design, materiality and collaboration between Allied_Office, Akin Atelier, and Second Edition.
Like the building’s architecture, spatial planning is thoughtful and straightforward, focusing on a high level of flexibility to foster collaboration and cross-pollination between the client’s building and landscaping businesses. This flexibility also allows for different tenancies as the clients’ businesses evolve into the future.
